TBD

Pre-release read: game-faithful and proudly strange

The trailers lean hard into the games. Whether the fights can carry two hours is the open question. Final rating after release.

Street Fighter 2026 release date

Paramount lists October 16, 2026 as the theatrical date, and the film was shot for IMAX. The date was set in September 2025, when Paramount and Legendary announced a three-year distribution deal, according to the Paramount press release. Sony had first held a March 2026 slot before the film moved to Paramount, per IMDb News.

Street Fighter 2026 India release: date, languages and format

  • Date: October 16, 2026, the same day as the US.
  • Languages: English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. The official Hindi trailer lists all four, and ticketing sites such as District show the same.
  • Format: theatrical release. The film was shot for IMAX, but which Indian screens carry the IMAX version varies, so check your local cinema.

Pick your language version carefully when booking. Hindi, Tamil and Telugu dubs are usually listed as separate shows.

Street Fighter 2026 runtime

Current listings give the runtime as about 120 minutes. The BBFC lists approximately 120 minutes, while Rotten Tomatoes lists 2 hours 5 minutes. Databases round differently, so plan for roughly two hours plus ads and trailers.

Street Fighter 2026 rating and age suitability

  • US: rated PG-13 for violence and action, bloody images, strong language, sexual references, partial nudity and brief smoking.
  • UK: the BBFC's content advice lists violence, injury detail, threat, sex references and infrequent strong language.
  • India: CBFC has certified the trailer UA 16+, but that does not establish the final certification for the movie itself. Check the certificate on your ticket listing before booking for younger viewers.

Street Fighter 2026 cast and characters

The official site names a long list of fighters. These nine roles matter most.

CharacterActorCasting note
RyuAndrew KojiOne of the two leads. Known for the martial arts series Warrior.
Ken MastersNoah CentineoThe other lead. In the April trailer, Ryu calls him reckless.
Chun-LiCallina LiangShe recruits Ryu and Ken, so the plot starts with her.
M. BisonDavid DastmalchianThe franchise villain. Known for Dune and Ant-Man.
GuileCody RhodesWWE star, complete with Guile's flat-top.
AkumaRoman ReignsCredited as Joe Anoa'i. Another WWE name.
Balrog50 CentThe boxer. He and Zangief beat Ken in the April trailer.
BlankaJason MomoaAlso a producer on the film.
DhalsimVidyut JammwalHis Hollywood debut.

Others include Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki, Orville Peck as Vega, Olivier Richters as Zangief, Hirooki Goto as E. Honda and Mel Jarnson as Cammy. Actors, wrestlers, a rapper and a country singer make an odd mix on paper, and the film has to use all of them well.

Vidyut Jammwal as Dhalsim

Dhalsim is the stretching yoga master from India. Deadline reported the casting in July 2025, and Outlook India calls it his Hollywood debut. The role suits him: Jammwal has trained in Kalaripayattu, an Indian martial art built on agility and flexibility, since childhood, according to Filmibeat. The trailers show Dhalsim's stretching limbs. His screen time isn't known yet, and claims that he's the film's best fighter are fan opinion.

Jason Momoa as Blanka

Momoa plays Blanka, the green-skinned Brazilian fighter known for his wild, animal-like style. He's also a producer, according to the credits on Rotten Tomatoes.

Street Fighter 2026 story: what we know

The film is set in 1993, per the official synopsis carried by IF Magazine. Ryu and Ken, once training partners and now estranged, are recruited by Chun-Li for the next World Warrior Tournament. A conspiracy sits behind the event and forces them to face each other and their pasts. Nothing official reveals the ending.

Street Fighter 2026 latest trailer: what it shows

The official site hosts all the trailers and featurettes. Here's how they build on each other:

  • September trailer (latest): expands the roster and shows more game-specific moves, including Guile's flat-top, E. Honda's Hundred Hand Slap, Blanka's full look and Akuma standing over the fighters, according to High On Films. Ryu also seems to wrestle with the dark power from the games.
  • April trailer: introduced the main setup. The Hollywood Reporter called it campy, and it shows Balrog and Zangief beating Ken, Ryu calling Ken reckless and Guile trying to explain Ryu's Hadoken.
  • December 2025 teaser: debuted at The Game Awards.

My read: each new trailer has leaned further into the games, not away from them. The marketing treats the silliness as part of the fun.

How faithful is Street Fighter 2026 to the games?

Going by everything released so far, very. This is the strongest thing about the film before release, and it's a clear break from the 1994 and 2009 movies.

  • The moves: Ryu's Hadoken, E. Honda's Hundred Hand Slap, Blanka's electric roll and Dhalsim's stretching limbs all appear in the trailers.
  • The looks: Ryu and Ken in white and red gis, Guile's flat-top, Blanka's green skin, Akuma's menace. Nobody has been redesigned into a "realistic" version.
  • The setup: the World Warrior Tournament, straight from Street Fighter II, with Ryu and Ken as rivals and Chun-Li as the one pulling them in.
  • The era: setting it in 1993 puts it right in the Street Fighter II arcade years.

The filmmakers say this is deliberate. In an official featurette, the team talks about wanting "the pageantry, and the characters' signature moments, the stances, everything," and one cast member says of the fight work, "They really look like the moves in the game." Another puts it more simply: "Give the people what they want!" The same featurette shows period details like Jolt Cola, a nod to 90s nostalgia.

My assessment: the trailers suggest the film is deliberately embracing the stranger parts of Street Fighter rather than trying to make the franchise look like a grounded martial-arts drama. That's a risk, because camp can tip into parody. It's also the first time a Street Fighter movie looks like it actually trusts the games.

A detail Street Fighter fans might notice

GamesRadar+ reports that the film references Evo Moment 37, the famous 2004 tournament match where Daigo Umehara's Ken parried all 15 hits of Justin Wong's Chun-Li super with almost no health left, then won. It's one of the most replayed clips in competitive gaming history, and the sort of detail aimed at longtime players rather than casual moviegoers.

Is Street Fighter 2026 better for fans or newcomers?

For game fans, familiar characters, moves and references like Evo Moment 37 add a whole extra layer. You'll spot things casual viewers won't.

For newcomers, the premise is simple: two estranged fighters, a tournament and a conspiracy. None of it needs game lore.

You don't need to know Street Fighter 6 or the older games before watching, and you don't need the 1994 or 2009 films either. Fans just get more out of it.

My take on the Street Fighter 2026 trailers

I've only seen the trailers, so this is a trailer take and not a review. What works for me is how far the film leans into the games. The characters look like their game versions and use moves from the games, like Blanka's electric roll. Cody Rhodes' Guile hair is ridiculous, and it's a compliment.

I'm curious how the film handles M. Bison. I'm also curious about the wrestlers, since Rhodes and Roman Reigns as Akuma should sell moves well, and selling moves suits a fighting-game movie. Right now it looks fun, and I'll save my verdict for the theatre.

Why I think the fights will decide this movie

The fights decide everything for me. A silly setup is fine if the choreography is fun to rewatch. The 1994 film has Jean-Claude Van Damme, but its fights aren't memorable, and the 2009 Chun-Li film leaned toward story over fighting. I want the reverse this time.

The ingredients are there. Andrew Koji comes from Warrior, Jammwal is a trained martial artist, Callina Liang has spoken about intense kick training for Chun-Li, and the wrestlers know how to make a hit look big. The worry is the roster. With this many fighters in two hours, some will get one fight and little else. I also hope the trailers haven't already shown most of the best action.

Street Fighter 2026 budget: what is confirmed?

Street Fighter's official production budget has not been publicly confirmed. The closest official number comes from Screen NSW, which estimated $80 million in spending across New South Wales during the Sydney shoot. That covers local spending only, not the full cost, so treat any exact budget elsewhere as unconfirmed until a studio or a trade outlet such as Variety or Deadline reports one.

Street Fighter 2026 compared with the previous movies

The 1994 film starred Jean-Claude Van Damme as Guile and had a reported $35 million budget. The 2009 film, The Legend of Chun-Li, cost $50 million and earned $12.8 million, per Wikipedia. The 2026 film isn't connected to either. It makes Ryu and Ken the leads, fills the roster with far more game characters, and by the marketing sits much closer to the games.

Where to watch Street Fighter 2026

Theatres only for now. Paramount hasn't announced a streaming date or platform. Some sites guess at a Paramount+ window, but those are guesses.

Is Street Fighter 2026 worth watching?

It suits viewers who like video-game adaptations, martial-arts action, wrestling crossovers or camp. If you want a grounded, serious fight drama, the trailers point elsewhere. Late October is busy, too: Clayface opens on October 23 in North America, and our Clayface pre-release guide covers it.

Final verdict

Street Fighter (2026) looks like a deliberate attempt to embrace the unusual side of the video games instead of hiding it. The cast is a strange mix of actors, wrestlers, musicians and martial artists, but the trailers show a film leaning into the franchise's exaggerated characters and signature moves.

The real question is whether the fights are good enough to carry a two-hour movie and whether the large roster gets enough meaningful screen time.
